The Juice Was In Vegas On Sunday Night: 'What The Heck Is Going On?'

An incredibly ironic aside has emerged from the devastating massacre in Las Vegas. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, disgraced former NFL star OJ Simpson was released on parole from the Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada. Guess where he wound up after gaining his freedom? Yep, The Juice stayed at a home in Vegas on Sunday night. As the Daily Mail shares, he had a simple question for his attorney the following morning.

Simpson’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, explained to the New York Post that he checked in with his client on Monday, and Simpson had a question for him.

“What the heck is going on?” Simpson said.

"Well, I hope nobody tries to pin any of this on you,” LaVergne replied.

Simpson was in a house well away from the horrific scene, but we would have to imagine it was jarring to be anywhere in the vicinity of such a tragic event.

“Seriously, he was looking to avoid drama, and now this just has people talking about how everywhere he goes, something happens,” LaVergne added.

Simpson was released in the wee hours of the morning, and we can only presume that was to avoid a media circus upon his release. An enterprising reporter was still able to catch up with Simpson a few hours after he was released, but Simpson declined to reveal where he was headed. We now know that he’s staying in a large home in Vegas, and several photos have been making the rounds of Simpson as he enjoys his newfound freedom. LaVergne is worried that attention that Simpson is receiving could lead to problems.

“That is a concern of mine, and it really is the ultimate concern of the Nevada Department of Corrections because they’re the ones who are going to have to properly get this thing done with Mr. Simpson,” he added. “I do believe that all these things are being done for Mr. Simpson’s safety concerns so that we don’t have these chases, we don’t have helicopters and we don’t have all these things.”

While Simpson remains a topic of fascination with the public, it seems like LaVergne can put those concerns on hold - at least for the time being. Simpson’s release has just been a small blip in the news cycle due to the Vegas tragedy, as the nation’s collective attention remains fixated on what happened.

The investigation is ongoing, and it remains unclear why 64-year-old Stephen Paddock decided to open fire on a crowd of people that were simply enjoying themselves at a Country music festival. It remains impossible to understand, and it will likely remain that way even when more details emerge.

As for Simpson, it appears that he’ll be heading to Florida before too long. He has indicated that he hopes to remain out of the spotlight, but that’s going to be a pretty tough trick to pull off. We would assume there will be the inevitable ‘tell-all’ interview, but we’ll patiently wait and see if Simpson proves us wrong about that.
