Judge Shocks Courtroom During Sentencing Of Teen Girl (Video)

A 17-year-old from Southern Maryland could have faced 80 years in prisons for torturing a 16-year-old autistic boy, but a judge took mercy on her and didn’t try the teen as an adult.

Chopticon High School student Lauren A. Bush was sentenced to a juvenile detention center until she turns 21, according to the Washington Post, for a list of appalling offenses, some of which were recorded on cellphone video. A 15-year-old accomplice was also charged in the case and sentenced to juvenile detention until she is 21.

The girls are accused of holding a knife to the boy’s throat, leading him to a half frozen pond and refusing to save him when he fell in, according to the Washington Post. The teen girls are also accused of trying to run the boy over with a car and encouraging him to have sex with his family’s dog.

“The conduct on the DVDs, and her statements to the police are outrageous. There is a lack of empathy . . . a dramatic lack of empathy,” St. Mary’s County Circuit Judge David Densford said. “You look at them and say, ‘Why would any human being treat another person like this?’”

Bush, who showed no remorse after being caught by authorities, apparently suffered trauma as a child and several concussions as cheerleader, the judge noted. The victim's father and prosecutors wanted her tried as an adult. The victim, however, wanted to maintain his friendship with his abuser.
