Judge Refuses Girl's Request For A Restraining Order Against Her Abusive Ex - She Pays The Price (Photos)

A 17-year-old Michigan girl said she is “really grateful to be alive” after she was badly assaulted by her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend Adam Shigwadja who set her bedroom on fire.

Shigwadja went after Miss Putney-Wilcox after she broke up with him after a year and a half of dating when she found out that he was cheating on her, MailOnline reports.

The first time was when he forced her out of her home in underwear and a t-shirt after at knifepoint. He was arrested, released on bail and ordered to stay away from Putney-Wilcox.

She tried to file an extra order of protection but was denied.

He then broke into her home again and attacked her. Her brother attempted to intervene and accidently hit Putney-Wilcox in the head with a baseball bat. Shigwadja also lit some gasoline to set her bedroom on fire during the melee.

Putney-Wilcox’s injuries required her to shave her head and get multiple stitches. She wanted to share her stories to encourage domestic violence victims to seek help, according to MailOnline.

Shigwadja was ordered to serve back to back sentences of 83 months to 15 years, putting him in prison for a minimum of 30 years.
