Josh Homme, Queens Of The Stone Age Singer, Apologizes For Kicking Photographer At Concert

Some things you just can’t explain. Just ask Josh Homme. After intentionally kicking a photographer at the KROQ Acoustic Christmas show on Sat., December 9th, Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme issued a second apology in a video late on Sunday.

With red eyes and apparently on the verge of tears, Homme spoke quietly: "I don't have any excuse or reason to justify what I did. I was a total dick and I'm truly sorry and I hope you're okay."

In the video, Homme admitted kicking photographer Chelsea Lauren's camera and apologized to her. "I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life and last night was definitely one of them," Homme said ruefully. "I apologize for that to you. I want to be a good man but I think last night I definitely failed at that. That means I failed my family and my friends as well. I don't want them to ever be ashamed or embarrassed about being around me or knowing me."

In the next breath, Homme extended his apology to his bandmates, his parents, his wife, and the rest of his family.

The 6'4" lead singer went on to say: "I'm gonna have to figure out some stuff I think... cuz rock n' roll's a wonderful thing. It's supposed to save and help people, not mess them up."

Homme closed the video by saying he hopes Lauren is okay, and he understands “she has to do what she has to do”. His initial written apology claimed he kicked Lauren's camera when he was "lost in the performance," as he was kicking "various lighting and equipment on our stage."

However, Lauren, a Shutterstock photographer, uploaded a video on Instagram showing Homme walking by her, then turning around and then coming back to kick her camera as he moves back across the stage.

Lauren fell after the contact, and eventually tweeted she ended up overnight in the ER. She explained what happened in an interview with Variety: "Josh was coming over and I was pretty excited. I’ve never actually photographed Queens of the Stone Age before. I was really looking forward to it. I saw him coming over…next thing I know his foot connects with my camera and my camera connects with my face, really hard. He looked straight at me, swung his leg back pretty hard and full-blown kicked me in the face. He continued performing. I was startled. I kind of stopped looking at him. I just got down and was holding my face because it hurt so badly.”

Various sources report Homme was behaving bizarrely during the show, at one point using a knife to cut his forehead. He even called the audience "retards" and shouted "Fuck Muse!" (the UK band headlining the show).

The next day, Lauren posted on social media she was home from the hospital, but was still dealing with a sore neck, bruised eyebrow and nausea.

Lauren also commented in the interview that she planned to file a police report about what happened. Of note, Homme was sued for assault last year by a man named Jason Leckrone who says he was just seeking an autograph. Leckrone claims that Homme grabbed his neck, leaving painful bruises, after a show at the Fox Theater in Detroit.
