This Sketch Is Raising Doubt About The "Lone Gunman" Theory In The Kennedy Assassination

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, remains a gigantic black mark on our nation’s history. The mystery of what really happened on that fateful day in Dallas has been the subject of debate ever since.

The official word on Kennedy’s death states that he was the victim of shots that were fired by lone gunman Lee Harvey Oswald. Film of the shocking incident suggests otherwise, but there has never been any official confirmation that there may have been more than one shooter.

As the Daily Mail shares, the speculation on Kennedy’s death has come back to the forefront due to an interesting item that has been put up for auction. Dr Robert McClelland was one of the physicians in the operating room with Kennedy, and he doodled out a sketch of his wounds.

That sketch reveals a vastly different assessment of where the bullets came from than the official account.

McClelland has not offered up any recent thoughts on the sketch, but he did have an extensive chat with the Richmond Times-Dispatch back in 2013.

“I was about 18 inches above that wound. I got a better look at it than anybody in that room. It was way back in the back (of the head), which may lead to the thought that he was shot not only from the back, but also from the front,” he said. “In other words, there was more than one gunman, and therefore a conspiracy of some sort. And I looked into that wound for a long time, and there is no doubt what I saw,” he said.

Conspiracy buffs have long believed that there was at least one more shooter involved, and they often point to the famous footage shot by Abraham Zapruder on that day.

“The first bullet hit him in the back, not in the front as we thought at the time,” McClelland continued. “Several seconds later, the second shot hits him and his head literally explodes, and he was thrown violently backward and to the left as you would expect someone hit by a high-caliber bullet from the front, not from above and behind.”

The Zapruder film certainly makes it look as if Kennedy was hit multiple times from different vantage points, but the official account points to things such as a ‘magic bullet’ to help explain that away. We can color McClelland skeptical on that.

“It would have had to come in from the picket fence on the grassy knoll, in my view of it,” McClelland said. “Whether there was anything else, I have no opinion on that.”

We may never know exactly what happened on that fateful day, but the assassination of JFK has sparked a whole cottage industry of its own. There are a countless number of books and documentaries out there on the subject, and there’s an absolute plethora of theories on who was really behind the assassination.

It’ll be interesting to see how much this little sketch will fetch at auction, as well as what kind of new theories it may inspire.
