Confession About JFK Stirs Up Theories

Rumors have swirled since that fateful day in 1963 when U.S. President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in public. Though law enforcement agents have pinned the crime on Lee Harvey Oswald as a lone gunman, there has been endless speculation about a second shooter, or Oswald being nothing more than a patsy in a greater conspiracy.

Filmmaker Oliver Stone allegedly heard a story from one of Kennedy's own security team members. The man was dying and confessed that he knew the truth.

Oliver Stone is well versed on the Kennedy assassination. The director of the acclaimed film 'JFK' has always supported the theory that Oswald acted alone, but Stone's biographer revealed a story he heard from one of the men on security detail that day, and it's a bombshell.

Apparently, it had Stone re-thinking his position.

Matt Zoller Seitz, who is releasing a book on Stone, says that Stone got a call from a former Secret Service agent known only as 'Ron'. The man claims he was on the security team detail in Dallas that day that Kennedy was shot, and he wanted to share some shocking details about the assassination with the director.

Ron said that the only other person he ever told his tale to was his son, but since he's dying now he wanted to come clean.

“Somebody from his own team… had fired on the President," Seitz claims was Ron's revelation.

The official story is that former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald, who became obsessed with communism, plotted and executed a plot to kill the president all on his own. He went to the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository where he worked and fired the shot that hit Kennedy in the head.

Oswald was arrested and, two days later, he was killed by a major Kennedy supporter who was involved in organized crime.

According to Ron, that's not exactly how things went down. Seitz explains in his book,

“The scenario he laid out was very practical. It’s the way I would do it, if [I] were going to do something like that. You kill the president, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the president are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge of this plot… It makes a lot of sense."

He adds, “And his memory of it was so technical, filled with military jargon, details about radio communications right after the shots.”

The theory that anyone but Oswald shot Kennedy, or that the American government had been involved in the shooting, has been around for a long time. Every now and then, new claims pop up that seem to indicate a massive cover-up, however, no plausible evidence has ever been suggested. At least, none that has been taken seriously.

While there are no pending investigations into ‘Ron’ or his claims, it’s just one more mystery about the tragic event that will keep people talking.
