Ivanka Trump Slams Rumors Suggesting She’s Filling First Lady Role As ‘Sexist’

It’s no secret that Ivanka Trump holds considerable sway with her father, and that has led to endless speculation about where she fits into the big picture of the Trump administration. While her husband, Jared Kushner, has assumed a role as a key adviser in the White House, there has been no official designation for Ivanka. That hasn’t stopped many observers from anointing her with titles, including things along the lines of the real First Lady of the United States.

As the Daily Mail points out, Ivanka acknowledges that she’s aware of the speculation, but she frankly finds it ‘sexist.’ As Ivanka sees it, there’s plenty of room for more than one powerful woman in the First Family, and she has absolutely no intention of stepping into a role that Melania Trump is more than capable of fulfilling.

“Well, I think it’s an inappropriate observation. There's one first lady and she'll do remarkable things,” Ivanka said.

Of course, the fact that Melania remains in New York City while son Barron finishes out the school year is not helping on the speculation front. Add in the fact that Ivanka and Jared have settled into their new digs in one of DC’s most exclusive neighborhoods, and it’s not too hard to see why many would assume she’ll be taking on an active role.

Ivanka has been steadfast in her claims that her focus remains on the homefront and getting the couple’s children settled into their new surroundings, but she does leave the door open for becoming active and helping her father as needed.

“My father will be president and hopefully I can be there to support him and to support those causes I have cared about my whole professional career,” she continued.

Once the kids are settled in, it’s not too hard to envision Ivanka taking on some additional responsibilities. The bright and talented young woman has accomplished a great deal in her professional life, and it’s not hard to see those same skills translating into success on the philanthropic front.
