Incredible Police Officers Help Down-On-Luck Mom After She's Caught Stealing To Feed Kids

When you have children, the only thing that matters is taking care of them, providing them with food, water and a roof over their heads. One down-on-her-luck mother from North Carolina has shown the lengths that parents will go to in order to provide for their children.

The mother-of-three, who remains unnamed at this point in time, had been unable to work for several weeks after undergoing a debilitating brain surgery operation. With no income and depleted savings, the mother’s three adopted children hadn’t been able to have a proper meal in three days. With her children hungry and no one to turn to for help, the mother made the mistake of stealing some food from a Food Lion grocery store.

With no knowledge of the mother’s situation, grocery store staff quickly called the police. Using CCTV footage from the parking lots, Senior Corporal Keith Bradshaw and Officer 1st Class Candace Spragins were able to track down the misguided mother to her home.

As soon as the mother saw the police at her front door, she broke down, tearfully telling the officers that she had known she was doing the wrong thing. Before the police even managed to get a word in, the struggling mother rushed back indoors and returned with the $36 worth of items she had taken from the Food Lion store.

When Officer Bradshaw and Spragins asked the mother why she had stolen the food, the sobbing and apologetic offender tried to string together an explanation that made sense. After hearing the woman’s story, Officer Bradshaw and Officer Spragins asked her if they could have a brief look inside.

Once the two police officers looked through the woman’s fridge and home, they quickly realized that the mother’s crime had been motivated by love rather than greed.

“I opened the refrigerator door and the freezer, and all I could see was bare shelves and a pack of cheese,” said Officer Bradshaw in an interview with ABC’s 13 Action News. Realizing that the mother’s plight outweighed her crime, Officer Bradshaw and Officer Spragins told her that they would be taking care of things.

Both police officers sprang into action, returning to the Food Lion grocery store and loading up their patrol cars with food and other essential items for the family in need. According to Little Things, the total bill for the grocery haul was over $180.

When the police officers returned with the grocery items, the mother was floored. Humbled by the compassion and generosity on display, the unnamed mother hugged and blessed both officers. Let’s hope that this unexpected act of kindness gets this North Carolina mother back on her feet and restores her faith in the authorities.

Unsurprisingly, online commenters and social media users have reacted to the incident with equal parts admiration and happiness. “They used compassion as opposed to a prison sentence,” said a news anchor on Good Morning Las Vegas.
