Immediate Recall Issued Over Salmonella Found In Popular Brand Of Chili Seasoning

Yet another recall has been made for ‘Hunt’s Chili Kits’ after a salmonella scare involving the chili seasoning packets in the popular kit. Conagra Brands Inc., the makers of Hunt’s Chili Kits, has made a small recall of a “limited amount” of the kits in order to prevent any customers from contracting salmonella from their products.

While no one has been reported ill from consuming the product, Conagra officials were concerned that the raw material used in the packaging containing the chili seasoning, could cause someone to develop salmonella. The gastrointestinal illness can be caused by contamination of products by the Salmonella bacteria and may infection leads to fever, vomiting, diarrhea and headaches.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a recall notice that read: “The chili seasoning used in the packet originated from a supplier who informed the company of the potential presence of Salmonella in a raw material used in the chili seasoning (packet contained in the kit). Although no Salmonella was found in the finished product supplied to Conagra Brands, the company has decided out of an abundance of caution to recall the product.”

While the Congara company are doing everything they can to alleviate the problem without causing a deal of fear and panic, they realized the risk that was posed to their consumers if they happened to contract salmonella from the kit. Congara has urged customers who have brought the product to not consume it but return it to the store that it was originally purchased for a refund.

Congara has been fully cooperative with the FDA to ensure that all potentially contaminated products are removed from supermarket shelves and that products that have already been purchased are tracked down and returned before consumption. 44.8-ounce kits with ‘best by’ dates from April 4 through to May 1 have been recalled as well as boxes with specific product codes.
