IKEA Under Fire After THIRD Child Dies

A popular piece of IKEA furniture claimed the life of a 22-month-old Minnesota child when it toppled over on him. According to the Daily Mail, this is the third child that has been tragically killed by the same type of unit.

The piece of furniture is a six-drawer Malm unit that clearly states in its assembly instructions that it must be mounted to the wall to prevent potential tip overs. Restraints were included with the product, and IKEA has reiterated warnings to properly secure the product, while also expressing condolences to the family.

“We at IKEA offer our deepest condolences to the McGee family. At IKEA, we believe children are the most important people in the world and the safety of our products is our highest priority. Upon being informed of this incident IKEA US immediately reported it to the authorities and an investigation is taking place,” a company spokesperson said.

Janet McGee had placed her son Ted down for a nap, and would check on him repeatedly. She would discover her child underneath the unit. IKEA has launched a free wall-anchoring program in a bid to avoid further tragic accidents.
