Hunter Slammed for What People Spot on His Back in Facebook Pictures

A Texas man went out to hunt, and posed for some pictures that he posted to his Facebook page. The pictures quickly went viral, and people went ballistic. The man was slammed by complete strangers for something they spotted on his back: his baby girl.

Travis Zatopeck is a husband, father, and owner of the Hacienda Wildlife Company. The hunter went on a trip to hunt doves with friends, and stopped to pose for a few publicity photos for his business. Some photos featured him in camouflage clothing, gun in hand, with his infant daughter in a baby carrier on his back.

Zatopeck says he thought it was a funny photo. He added the caption, "When it’s dove season, and you have baby duty! Owner of Hacienda, Travis Zatopeck, making it happen."

But people were not amused at all. The photo was shared more than 15,000 times and got 3,000 comments-- many of them angry or cautioning Zatopeck. Even people who enjoy hunting argued that it was not a smart move.

“I hate to be so negative but as cute as this is it’s very dangerous!!!” wrote one commenter. “Baby should come first there’s no way that you had no other choice but to take babe with you hunting he's not even being worn the right way and any number of things can happen!!!”

Zatopeck wrote a lengthy post defending himself, pointing out that his youngest daughter was just in the picture for the photo op. He didn't actually hunt with her on his back. But he had an eloquent response to nay-sayers who feel hunting and children never should mix.

“As American citizens, we have the right to raise our children utilizing what we, as their parents, feel is right and wrong. We do not apologize for raising our girls around guns and hunting. Educating them young is a huge attribute for their future,” Zatopeck said on his Facebook page. “We, as parents, promote positive family morals and values along with teaching them respect and responsibility.”
