Hunter Scores Big Deer, Breathless After Discovering One In A Million Find Inside Prey

A deer hunter in Utah is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. However, his notoriety is not for killing a buck with a perfect heart shot or due to the size of the deer or the number of points on its antlers, it’s because of the animal’s strange past history.

In this case, it was because this particular deer had a metal hunting arrow inside of it that had been assimilated into the side of its ribs. Experts point out that while this is not the first time this unusual arrowhead-assimilation phenomenon has been observed, it is an excellent example of what can happen if an arrowhead enters an animal cleanly but does not hit any vital areas.

When the Utah Conservation Officers Association (UCOA) shared the picture with the arrowhead inside the deer’s ribs a few weeks ago, it went viral in the hunting community in just a few days. Over the last several weeks, the viral image of the deer’s ribcage has begun attracting even more viewers from across the United States and around the globe.

Note that the UCOA included a caption explaining the pic with their viral Facebook post:

“Take a close look at this, absolutely amazing! This deer was shot several years prior and when they dressed it out they found this! Someone shot the deer years prior, but it wasn’t a fatal shot. It broke a few ribs and the arrow broke off, the deer’s body used the arrow as a splint and the bone grew around the shaft (notice the Bear Razorhead)!”

According to various media sources, the hunter who took down that incredibly tough buck has had the rare arrowhead-embedded ribcage mounted for display. The very unusual ribcage of the buck is now on public display at the Utah Conservation Officers Association.
