Homeless Man Prayed For An Angel, And An Angel Came

A Missouri woman was driving through a Burger King while picking up some dinner when she recognized someone in the window. The man was sitting at a table alone by a window with his hands buried in his face as he sobbed. The woman snapped his photo, but that was just the beginning of what she did. It's truly a miracle.

Katy Hurst recognized the man she saw in the window of the Independence Burger King. She knew he was one of the local homeless. She'd seen him hanging around before.

The look of defeat on the man's face and his sobbing, though, was not something she'd ever seen before. She knew that she had to do something to help.

Hurst had just gone through the drive-thru to pick up a meal for her kids. She dropped the three children off at her nearby home then returned to see the crying man. She approached him at the table and sat down with him.

Hurst asked the man his name. He told her he went by the name 'Pops'.

Pops was grateful just that someone was talking to him. It seems he suffered a string of hardships as of late, and it landed him alone on the streets. He'd recently suffered several broken bones, but he couldn't afford to get them treated.

“He said, ‘I have a broken collarbone, I have broken ribs, I've been beaten up,’” she explained. “He needed somebody to step in and help him. That's what I did."

Pops was living alone in terrible pain with no hope, and he sat there crying, wondering if life was even worth living. He was ready for it to end.

“And I said, ‘Well, you’re not going today,’” Hurst says.

He told Hurst that just as she captured him in that photo in the window, he was praying to God for an angel.

Hurst brought Pops home and let him get some much-needed sleep on a comfortable place to rest his head with a warm blanket. She put his picture up on Facebook and her friends rushed to help as well. Her friend, Pamela, offered to give Pops a haircut. He was very grateful for it.

Hurst then brought Pops to the hospital to get medical attention for him. She then started an online fundraiser to raise money for his medical expenses and to help him get on his feet.

“Pops needs our help to show him that this world is still full of good people!” Hurst said on the fundraiser page. “We have to help each other and helping each other helps all of us.”

So far, more than $11,000 has been raised for the 57-year-old man to help him get on his feet and put his life back together, plus a lot of people have donated items to him that will help him get a fresh start in life and in his new place to live. More importantly, the man’s faith and will to live have been restored.
