Homeless Man Caring for Stray Dogs Receives Awesome Gift

In 2001, a homeless man, named Steve, lost his home in California and fell on hard times. Since then, he has found dogs to be his best friends. He has tried to care for every stray dog he's found and has taken care of over 150 dogs within the last 14 years. A friend in Indiana offered him help, so Steve manufactured a cart from a wagon--attaching it to his bike in order to carry his dogs along with him. Steve then began towing the 11 dogs across a 2,000 mile journey. When Steve made it to West Memphis, Arkansas, Alicia Edrington saw him--she put on her flashers and pulled off the road. She introduced herself, and Steve told her the story of his dogs.

Edrington wrote on Facebook “God must have put this man on that road at the time for a reason because as I was returning to town I saw him." Edrington then reached out to her mother, who reached out to her friends. After a few hours, hundreds of people offered to help Steve and his dogs. When they saw a storm in the forecast, Edrington's family booked a hotel room for Steve for the night. Then, the West Memphis Animal Shelter heard about Steve, and they donated 100 pounds of dog food. Others donated leashes and collars.

As word spread, Tennessee woman and animal lover Kelly Seaton offered to drive Steve to Indianapolis. In a final gesture of generosity, one person donated a trailer for Steve and his dogs could live together in their own home. Steve's story has since gone viral, and his dogs have bee sprayed, neutered and vaccinated. A GoFundMe page was created that has since raised $18,000. A Facebook page was created for Steve titled "Steve's Strays United Across the USA." The page has received over 2,000 likes.
