Homeless Boy Graduates At The Top Of His Highschool Class (Video)

Liyjon DeSilva is a fighter. Despite all he had going against him, which was more than any teenager should have to deal with, he still kept going and made it to graduation.

“It was that or become a low life,” he told ABC 13. “If I had a chance, why not keep going?”

But it wasn’t easy being a homeless teenager, sleeping on the streets after his family abandoned him. According to ABC 13, DeSilva’s mother passed away when he just 5-years-old and he was eventually left on his own after bouncing around to different family member’s houses.

He spent three years on the streets alone. He told no one, but went to school every single day and came out more enlightened than any of us could hope to be.

"I wanted clothes,” he told ABC 13. “I wanted to be able to live like a normal kid, you know. I wanted to eat like a normal kid. I slept at parks. I love sleeping on parking lots because I could see the stars, the sky. There was one where I could see the horizon of the city. I slept at pools. Those were cool. I don't like to refer to it as bad or that it was terrible because I learned a lot. I learned a lot of survival skills. Life became a bit easier."

DeSilvia finally accepted help while attending the Margaret Long Wisdom High School. They helped him find a home of his own and went on to get a 3.67 PGA and a full scholarship to college.
