Homecoming Kings Kept Big Secret, Leave Everyone Speechless Two Weeks Later

Three homecoming king nominees got together before the winner was announced and made a pact. All three decided they could not accept the crown - they thought another student deserved it even more.

The teens of Unionville Community High School in Tennessee decided that the person who really deserved the crown was the friendliest guy in school: Scotty Maloney.

Scotty, a junior, has Williams Syndrome. This neurological disorder inhibits his speech and ability to learn, but it also has a much nicer symptom: it makes a person very friendly and happy. "A lot of us look up to him," said one of the students.

Scotty is known at his school for his bright spirit and for putting smiles on people's faces. Homecoming king nominees Jesse, Drew and Zeke all agreed that Scotty, who wasn't even nominated, should have the honor.

When the principle announced the decision, Scotty's jaw reportedly dropped and the students rose to their feet for a standing ovation. Scotty accepted his crown, medal, and took pictures with the homecoming queen.

Scotty may not be the 'coolest' guy in the school; he's not the guy you would normally expect to be crowned king. However, he is the most deserving, and the most appreciative of the title. Even a week later, he's still wearing the medal around his neck. With all the stories of bullying and cruelty that get attention, it’s beautiful and refreshing to hear of the kids who are treating each other with kindness.
