Home Depot Employee Sparks Controversy Over Message On Her Hat (PHOTOS)

People are threatening to kill Krystal Lake, all because of a hat she wore. Images of the lifelong Staten Island resident wearing a hat that says “America Was Never Great” have gone viral, becoming fodder for internet trolls.

Since the photo of her was posted she says she has received dozens of death threats on social media, according to silive.com.

“People have been saying really racist things to me and that they're going to come and find me and that what I said is disgraceful and I hate America -- but I don't hate America,” she said. “I know there are a lot of opportunities here. I just wish we would worry about making America better -- not 'great again.'”

The Home Depot worker said it was the only time she’s ever worn that hat to work and wasn’t told by any supervisors that she couldn’t wear it.

“For the past two months, there have been a few people I work with wearing 'Vote for Trump' pins on their uniforms,” she said. "But no one ever says anything to them.”

A Home Depot spokesperson said that Lake’s hat doesn’t reflect the views of Home Depot and that employees aren’t permitted to wear political items, however no one from management saw her wearing the hat that day. They did vow to be more vigilant in enforcing their policy at that specific location.

Holmes says she plans to keep wearing her hat.

“I feel it offended a lot of people because a lot of Trump supporters live in Staten Island,” she said. “Trump is very rash and in your face, but when someone else has a message against him, his supporters can't take the criticisms.”
