Heroic Marine That Helped Vegas Victims Hears From Owner Of Truck He Borrowed

There have been plenty of amazing stories that have emerged out of the carnage of the Las Vegas massacre. The worst mass shooting event in modern United States history could’ve been even worse if not for the actions of the brave men and women that protect and serve, and plenty of ordinary citizens jumped in to do what they could to help as well. One of the most amazing from that group is former Marine Taylor Winston, who completely disregarded his own safety to help as many folks as he possibly could.

As AOL shares, Winston and a friend saw some folks in desperate need of medical attention, and they leapt into action to make sure that happened. They snagged a truck that was on the scene, and they hauled somewhere between 20 and 30 victims to the hospital to get the help they needed. It’s an amazingly selfless act of heroism, but the Iraq war veteran has been deflecting the much-deserved praise that has been heading in his direction.

There is one interesting aside to this amazing story: the truck wasn’t his. Winston knew he had to do something to help the victims, and he came across a truck that had the keys in it. Understandably, he didn’t give it a second thought as he hopped into the vehicle to begin helping the victims. The truck owner got wind of Winston’s actions, and he was able to track the hero down.

"Hey Taylor told you might have the keys to my truck?? All I won't is the key. Other then that its all water under the bridge to me and hows the people you hauled doing," the owner wrote via text.

"I have em for ya. When do you want to meet for em? We're at the Monte Carlo,” Winston replied. “I took about 30 critically injured to the hospital. Your truck was extremely important saving those peoples lives. I don't know if they all made it."

We’ll assume the pair had a ton of stories to exchange when they met up. Winston and his friend’s act of bravery cannot possibly be overstated. The scene was absolute chaos, and it was unclear exactly how much worse it was going to get. Instead of rushing to safety, Winston did what he felt he had to do. He’s been rightfully lauded for his actions, but he doesn’t see that he did anything all that special.

"There was a lot of bravery and courageous people out there. I'm glad that I could call them my country folk," he said.

We’ll respectfully disagree with this heroic veteran. What he did was amazing, and it was a very bright light on a terrifying evening. It’s going to take a long time to pick up the pieces after what happened, and we’ll have to remain patient as the investigation unfolds. In the meantime, we can all use Winston’s stellar example as a beacon of hope that can help get us through.
