Heroic Firefighter Saves Baby from Blazing Home

New York firefighter Lt. Adam Vilagos helped to save a three-week-old baby from a burning home in Queens.

He ran in to get the baby who was in a crib in the third-floor attic before handing the child over to another firefighter. This took place around 9:30 p.m. on 106th Street in Corona.

Vilagos said "I went up to the attic and found the baby about five steps to the right." The 18-year-veteran was on the second floor when he noticed the attic stairway filling with black smoke. That's when he heard the baby boy's cries.

He had to feel around the hazy room to find him and use his flashlight. The baby, Sunjay Headly Jr., was placed on an oxygen machine and taken to Elmhurst Hospital in serious but stable condition.
