Hero Sued by Target

After seeing a man stab a teenage girl in a Pittsburgh Target, back in March of 2013, several people came to help her and fought the man away. Now, Target has filed a lawsuit against one of the defenders.

On Thursday, Michael Turner protested outside of the store in the East Liberty neighborhood, holding a hand-made sign reading, “Target Sues Stabbing Victim HERO.” According to Mr. Turner, the attacker stabbed a friend of his in the shoulder just minutes prior to a scuffle at Target, which was only a few blocks away from the initial incident. After the stabbing inside Target, the wounded man, Turner and two others chased after the stabber.

The culprit, Leon Walls, also stabbed the teen Allison Meadows in Target and was then chased down by Turner throughout the store. A representative, from the store, stated unreasonable harm was caused to others in the store due to Turner’s reckless pursuit. Meadow’s family does not agree with the sentiment of Target.

According to the family’s lawyer, Lisa Circeo, the family is suing Target because they did not keep Allison safe. She issued a statement that, “Suing Michael Turner is just Target’s way of trying to blame someone else for what happened under their own roof.” There is no blame from the family towards Mr. Turner. In fact, they are thankful he was present the day the incident happened. The court determined that Walls was guilty, but also mentally ill. He has yet to be sentenced for the stabbing event.
