Here’s What Michelle Obama Has Planned For Her $40M Memoir

President Barack Obama has made over $15 million dollars from his pre-White House memoirs. Post-White House, he could easily earn a $20 million advance, and so could First Lady Michelle Obama if she's willing to dish.

After a young Senator Barack Obama entered the 2008 presidential race, sales soared for his 1995 memoir, 'Dreams of My Father.’ As the president prepares to leave office, and to write a new memoir, publishers are ready to put up hefty advances. Insiders in the publishing industry say President Obama could be offered around $20 million or more.

If that sounds like a lot, keep in mind it's not as much as Mrs. Obama could make. "Michelle's more popular and likable than Barack - and definitely more salable, so she's likely to garner an even bigger advance than the president," the DailyMail.com reports a high-ranking editor told them. "If I jump into the bidding, I'd definitely offer more for her story than his."

The First Lady's 'dishy stories' about her husband, kids, and other high ranking public officials — particularly the Clintons and the Trumps — would make a juicy memoir that could potentially be huge.

"The days of staid presidential and first lady memoirs are long over. We're in a tabloid world," said one publishing executive, the Daily Mail reports.

President Obama has been criticized for his last memoir being less than truthful. 'Washington Post' reporter and biographer David Maraniss said the president's life was ‘less dramatic - and more routine - than the president made it out to be’ in his last memoir.

A number of contradictions between what he wrote and what was reality have been brought to light since Mr. Obama took public office. For example, Obama said his step-grandfather died fighting Dutch troops in Indonesia; in reality, he died in a household accident when trying to hang drapes. This time around, honesty will be essential.
