Heiress Leaves Sizeable Gift For Her Favorite Nail Salon

Kaaren Parker Gray, 72, died of a heart attack on August 24 in her posh Sutton Place home on E. 57th St. She was a wealthy Upper East Side heiress who died of natural causes. A week later, Jenny Kim, 60, of Echo Spa and Nail, was shocked to find a handwritten letter from Gray, as well as $50,000 for her "love and devotion." Through a Korean translator, Kim said, "I feel good that she remembered me like that--not about the money."

Kim said that Gray visited the Echo Spa and Nail on First Ave. and E. 56th St. two times a week for 12 years unless she was spending time at her other houses in Arizona and Connecticut. Gray asked for Kim and enjoyed hearing about her two children and three grandchildren. Kim said, “She enjoyed having a massage on her hands and legs. She liked it nice and quiet so she could relax. She was a nice lady, very kind.” Gray's last visit was on August 7th, which was also the day she wrote her final will and testament.

Gray was the daughter of businessman Jack Parker, a vice president of General Electric and later director of Pan Am and the Smithsonian Institution. She also had three stepchildren who she remembered in her will. She also remembered her hair stylist and coat check girl at her favorite hair salon. In total, Gray bestowed about $3 million, including gifts for the Heard Museum in Arizona, the Hoover Institution her dad once chaired and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
