He Was Fired For Missing Work To Attend His Son’s Birth - Receives Unexpected News

Lamar Austin, a 30-year-old military veteran and resident of Concord, New Hampshire, was faced with a tough choice, but he went with the one that most people would choose. Instead of going to work, he went to the hospital with his wife, who just so happened to be in labor.

As the Huffington Post reports, that didn’t go over too well with his employer, Salerno Protective Services, and they informed him via text message that he was being let go due to his absence.

“I thought, ‘I’m just going to do what I feel is right for my family,’ and that’s it,” he said.

Despite the disappointment, Austin was there for the birth of his son, and he doesn’t regret his decision one bit. It sounds like members of the local community agreed with his choice as well, as stories of what happened to him spread like wildfire. He’s been inundated with job offers, and a member of the community has set up a GoFundMe page to help the family out.

“I don’t think anyone should ever have to choose between their family and their job,” says Sara Persechino.
