He Killed His Wife, Now Inmates Are Making Him Target After Brutal Attack With Tray
Convicted murderer Drew Peterson has been out of the headlines for some time, but he’s back in the limelight again this week. As CBS Austin reports, Peterson was attacked by another inmate at the maximum security prison he’s serving time at in Terra Haute, Indiana.
Peterson was convicted back in 2013 for the murder of his third wife. He entered the spotlight back in 2007 when his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared. That case made national headlines as Peterson was suspected of being involved in her disappearance. He made numerous appearances proclaiming his innocence. Police were never able to locate Stacy’s body, and he has never been formally charged in that case.
That case brought attention to the fact that his third wife, Kathleen Savio, died under suspicious circumstances. She was found dead in her home with extensive bruising and a large gash on her scalp. Although he wasn’t charged at the time of her death, investigators shined a new light on things after Stacy’s disappearance. He was indicted for his third wife’s murder in 2009, and he was finally convicted in 2012.
In addition to being convicted for Savio’s murder, Peterson has also been convicted for attempting to hire a hitman to kill a prosecutor. Fast forward to the present day, and Peterson had been serving time in Illinois. This past February, he was transferred to a prison in Indiana, and he apparently rubbed someone the wrong way.
Reports indicate that another inmate jumped him in the prisons mess hall. No word on what led to the dispute between the two inmates, but it’s said that Peterson got the worst of it and was assaulted with a tray. Prison officials have not commented on the report thus far, and Peterson’s attorney has noted that he is "looking into the matter." Peterson remains the prime suspect in Stacy’s disappearance to this day, but it doesn’t appear as if any headway has been made into the case for some time.
