He Jokingly Wrote 'Sexual Favors' On A Check, Now The Law Is Stepping In

Scott Dion felt as if he was getting the short end of the stick when filing his taxes. In November of lst year, the sent a property tax check to the Hill County Treasurer with one phase on the memo line, 'sexual favors'. This was not the first time he did this so he definitely did not expect any lawyers to get involved.

Dion said, "I probably wrote something on the majority of my checks, and she's cashed them," when speaking about Hill County Treasurer Sandy Brown. Apparently the county did not cash his check for months which is why Dion thought something was wrong. He hired a lawyer to look into the matter. His lawyer, Jamie Young, contacted Sandy Brown to tell her not cashing the check was a violation of the First Amendment.

The state of Montana also has a law that supports Dion's claims that they must cash the check. Young wrote, "There is no exception under the law permitting Ms. Brown to refuse to perform her duties because she is offended by Mr. Dion's personal memo."

Brown said leaving the check uncashed was not due to his memo but because she did not know where it was. She claimed the last person to have it was the county attorney, Cole Hodgekinson. Hodgekinson refused to comment on the story except for saying there was nothing in the criminal or civil case records about the check. She added the county treasurer is unable to cash a check if it's unclear "what you want the funds applied to."

Dion did not buy their stories. He said everything on the check was completely normal except two words in the memo. He said he had done this multiple times before and they had not cared or had not noticed. He said, "The memo has nothing to do with them at all. Nothing." Dion also said that when he submitted his first tax payment of the year, he wrote 'Bullshit' into the memo line, which was promptly cashed.
