Hasselhoff Issues Ultimatum To Ex

It’s no secret that divorces can be testy affairs. While some couples manage to act like grownups and handle the disposition of assets and whatnot in a responsible fashion, others have a different course of action in mind. Sometimes, one half of the pair feels that the other should continue to fund their lifestyle, in spite of the fact that the marriage is over and they both need to move on with their lives. It’s a slippery slope to navigate, as sometimes there’s a genuine need for spousal support. When children are involved there’s no question about it, and situations in which one is in incredibly poor health is another area that passes the smell test.

But what do you do when the other half is fully capable of working and supporting themselves, except for the fact that they choose not to? That’s a gigantic problem on a whole number of levels, but the situation plays out in breakups across this great nation of ours. While the worker bees of the world have an incredibly tough time wrapping their heads around that concept, there are some other folks out there that have zero qualms about profiting off of the fruits of their ex’s labor.

As TMZ shares, that appears to be the situation that David Hasselhoff claims to be in, and it sounds like he has had about enough of it.

“David Hasselhoff's had enough of writing $10,000 checks to his ex-wife every month -- and says it's high time she find a way to support herself. David filed docs requesting an immediate end to his alimony payments to Pamela Bach,” TMZ notes. “The couple divorced in 2006, and for a long time he was paying her $21k per month. Last year he got that cut in half -- saying he was too broke to shell out so much -- and now he wants the amount cut to zilch.”

So the couple split up more than a decade ago, and Hasselhoff has been supporting his ex-wife ever since. While it’s understood that she became acclimated to a certain lifestyle while the pair was wed, it’s incredibly unclear why she needs so much money on a monthly basis. It sounds like the Hoff is about tapped out, and he’s looking to cut back on expenses. Hence, he’s examining one of the biggest drains on his bank account. That would come courtesy of someone that he broke up with eleven years ago.

According to documents filed with the court, Bach has shown a "failure to make any efforts to become self supporting, contribute to her own support, or even make any efforts to gain job skills."

We’ll certainly acknowledge that there’s two sides to every story, and there may be more to come on this one. However, we would also assume that a man of Hasselhoff’s stature would be privileged to some primo legal advice. There may be a big fire behind the smoke here, and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. If nothing else, perhaps Bach will find herself properly motivated to acquire the skills she needs to achieve a modicum of success of her own.
