Harvey Victims Shocked When They See What Pizza Hut Workers Did

Harvey was an absolutely epic storm that devastated a good portion of Texas, and the total amount of devastation continues to come into focus. Even with the benefit of images and videos, it can be hard to wrap your head around the wreckage that we’re talking about. People have had their lives completely upended, and rebuild and recovery efforts will take a long time.

While it’s hard to think of any glimmers of light when we’re talking about so much carnage, there have actually been a bunch of them. There have been some absolutely incredible stories of the best of people coming to light in amazing ways. Folks have been tremendously touched by Harvey, and many have been inspired to help in any way they can.

As AOL shares, that’s the spirit that inspired Shayda Habib, the manager of the Pizza Hut location in Sugar Land. She became aware of the fact that nearby families were trapped and were running low on food, so she came up with an awesome solution.

"I called my husband and asked him to gather up kayaks and meet me at the restaurant," she recalls.

They got to work quickly from that point making as many pizzas as they could. They would then set out to make a huge difference for those in need, and the fact that they may be putting themselves in danger to do so didn’t seem to matter.

“We packed 120 pizzas in kayaks and took them out to people in their homes,” Habib added.

As you would expect, the hungry families were nothing short of thrilled to see some unexpected pizza coming their way.

"The people in the houses didn't expect us to come," she said. "It was so nice to see their smiles after so much gloom."

Habib has noted that she plans to keep on feeding the families until the restaurant runs out of food. Photos of her amazing deed have been making the rounds, and they’ve been getting a ton of traction. Even an official Pizza Hut social media page chimed in to recognize and thank the crew "for their out-of-the-car response."

That’s just one of the many amazing stories of people pitching in to help in any way they can. Every little kind act makes a difference, and massive undertakings such as this one deserve all the recognition that they receive. Habib and her crew are a shining example of the spirit that has consumed many that have played witness to Harvey’s wrath.

The recovery efforts are just beginning, and there is a ton of work that needs to be done. Entire neighborhoods will need to be completely rebuilt, and many communities may just never be the same. Hopefully, the spirit of compassion and giving will continue towards the victims, and that will in turn give them the hope they need to get through an incredibly challenging time.

Hats off to Habib and her amazing crew, as well as anyone else that’s making a difference for Harvey’s victims.
