Gunman Kills 10 and Injures Over 20 at Oregon Community College

On Thursday morning, Oregon's Umpqua Community College was torn apart by an active shooter who opened fire and killed 10 while injuring over 20. The shooter was shot and killed by law enforcement. Thought to be in his late 20s, investigators believe he may have had an online conversation about his intentions the night before. They are now looking through his social media postings.

The community college is located in Roseburg, Oregon, about 180 miles south of Portland. The city is comprised of 22,000 residents with logging as one of its major industries. According to its website, the college prides itself as "a peaceful, safe atmosphere, and year-round recreational activities." Even Rick Francona, a CNN military analyst who lives nearby, said "This is so out of character for this whole area."

President Obama has received and will be receiving updates throughout the day. 12 students were transferred to Mercy Medical Center and five victims were transferred to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center. In addition, ATF agents and canine teams arrived on the scene to search for explosives, firearms casings and ammunition.
