Gun-Related Jobs Rose 73 Percent Since 2008

Last year, around 287,980 individuals were working in the gun industry last year. The number of gun-related jobs has increased by 75 percent in the last seven years. Some even claim that President Obama is "responsible" for the rise.

There were 166,000 working in the industry in 2008. Texas has the highest number of positions. California, which has strict gun laws, came in second with Florida in third place.

Michael Cargill, owner of Central Texas Gun Works, said "He's been the world's best gun salesman. Everything's up compared to last year due to the threats of executive actions President Obama has made." According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation's 2016 economic impact report, the average wage for a gun-related job has risen to $50,180. Under half of the positions were directly related to the supply or manufacture of guns.

Around 155,000 were through supply and ancillary companies. A spokesman for the Foundation said, "The economic growth of America's firearms and ammunition industry has experienced over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. During difficult economic times and high unemployment rates nationally, our industry has grown and created about 21,000 new, well-paying jobs over the past two years. Our industry is proud to be one of the bright spots in this economy."
