Giants Player Back On Field After Horrific Firework Accident Threatened Career

New York Giants player, Jason Pierre-Paul, had recently signed a new, one-year contract when he lost almost all of his index finger and left his thumb mangled by a Fourth of July fireworks incident.

Pierre Paul, 26, said he wasn't embarrassed by it as it is an annual tradition. The only thing he thought was that he was thankful to be alive and knew he would return to football.

He said, "I'm the same JPP that I was last year. There's not going to be a major adjustment. As far as my hand goes, I'll get used to it. I'm just fortunate to play football again."

In addition, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said that Pierre-Paul was mentally "very upbeat." Coughlin went on to say "He's anxious to go and play right now. But they're going to go relatively slow at the start."

The defensive end signed a contract that guarantees a $1.5 million paycheck.
