Friends Convince 11yo Boy His Girlfriend Committed Suicide, Family Devastated After Boy Does Unthinkable

It turns out there’s a dark understory to the tragic suicide an 11-year-old boy in Michigan last month.

The boy, named Tysen Benz, killed himself after an elaborate prank by his girlfriend and her friends convinced him that she was dead. Benz’s mom Katrina Goss is alleging that her son died because of a dangerous and manipulative prank pulled off by his more mature 13-year-old girlfriend.

“She did a prank that made it look like she killed herself and used other friends and their [social media] accounts to make it look like she killed herself,' Goss explained in an interview. 'So, he believed her and said, "I’m going to kill myself."'

Goss walked in on her son while he was hanging himself on March 14.

The identity of the girlfriend is not being released because she is a minor.

According to Goss, Tysen was an athlete, a comedian, a great brother and an amazing child.

Goss went on to say that the problems cropped up when he bought a cellphone behind her back and started “secretly dating” despite her telling him not to. Although she never actually met the girl, she heard other students calling her his girlfriend, and she had seen the girl a number of times while picking up and dropping off Tysen at school.

But as to why a teenager would attempt such a “controlling, harassing and manipulative” prank against her son is beyond her.
Not surprisingly, Goss says she would like to see the girl face charges for what she did to her son.

“I’m quite angry,' Goss noted. “I feel like, yeah, they’re young and all that, but I feel like when you’re 13, you’re completely knowledgeable of your choices and you know right from wrong. You can make your own choices. I do feel like she took advantage of a younger boy to control and manipulate him.

She continued: “I don’t feel like it should be taken lightly. She should be held legally responsible…”

Note that the Marquette Police Department reports that the investigation of Tysen's death is ongoing.
