Florida Gun Store Owner Wins the Right to Create a Muslim-Free Zone

Andy Hallinan is a gun store owner who made the decision to make it a "Muslim-free zone." Naturally, his decision wouldn't go unchallenged.

In July, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Florida filed the lawsuit against the store and its owner Andy Hallinan in July, saying that the ban discriminated against Muslims on the basis of religion. Hallinan is the owner of a Florida Gun Supply in Inverness, Florida.

Hassan Shibly, Chief Executive Director of CAIR Florida, said, “American Muslims have a right to browse and purchase guns, take classes on gun safety and shoot guns at a range without having to be profiled and discriminated. Such discrimination is not only illegal, it is bad for our country and makes us less safe and less free."

Although, in November, U.S. District Court Judge Beth Bloom dismissed the lawsuit against Hallinan. Bloom said CAIR and its members could not prove that they were injured by the store's policy, despite the organization saying the policy violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

After his victory, Hallinan posted a video to his Facebook page promoting his new "Muslim-free" products -- which included "jihadist target practices" and bumper stickers.

According to a poll by the Public Religion Research Institute, Forty-one percent of Americans in 2011 reported Islam was at odds with American values, and that number has increased to 56 percent in 2015.
