Fisherman Discovers He'd Been Holding Onto A $100M Good Luck Charm

Giant pearls weighing several pounds have been discovered on numerous occasions in various locations across the world. However, a fisherman in the Philippines has found the world’s largest giant pearl, and it is a doozy. Moreover, the middle-aged man discovered the stunning 34 kg pearl around 10 years ago off the south coast of Palawan Island, Philippines.

The man told local media sources he had no idea that the pearl might be worth $100 million, he just put it in storage as good luck charm in his tiny home.

It’s funny how things work out, as a fire a few months ago forced the man to move from his old house and find a new place to live.

At that point, the man brought the huge pearl to the local tourism officer at Puerto Princesca, who confirmed its authenticity and notified other government officials.

The pearl measures a mind-boggling 1 foot foot wide and 2.2 feet long. The not so new find is more than five times the weight of current record holder the Pearl of Allah (6.4 kg), which is valued at $35 million.

According to a statement from tourism officer Aileen Cynthia Amurao:

“The fisherman threw the anchor down and it got stuck on a rock during a storm. He noticed that it was lodged on a shell and swam down to pull up the anchor, and also brought the shell with him. This was a decade ago and he kept it at home.”

“He didn't know how much it was worth and kept it tucked away at home as a simple good luck charm. We were amazed when he brought it to us. We now need help from gemologists to fully certify it. We're waiting for authentication from Gemologist Institute and other international authorities.

But we believe Puerto Princesca is likely earn another prestigious title and a record breaker for having the world's biggest natural giant pearl from a giant clam.”
