Female Cop Allows Man To Beat Her, Doesn't Use Her Gun For One Simple Reason

A police officer in Chicago was severely beaten by a suspect while responding to a car accident. The officer said she was afraid to use her gun because of the scrutiny she might have to face the next day if she shot the suspect.

The unnamed officer was one of three injured at the scene of a crash. Police say a violent offender allegedly under the influence of drugs attacked them. One of the officers was severely beaten. All three were hospitalized after the incident.

The beating was captured on video surveillance cameras from a nearby business. The business owner handed the film over to police.

"It is terrible. It is total disregard for law enforcement. They put their lives forward every day for us and to see somebody do this, to pummel the police officer is terrible. It is a terrible thing," said the business owner.

According to Superintendent of Police Eddie T. Johnson, the officer was afraid to defend herself with her gun.

"She thought she was going to die. She knew that she should shoot this guy, but she chose not to because she didn't want her family or the department to have to go through the scrutiny the next day on national news," said Johnson.

Police have been villainized in recent years for trying to do their jobs or defend themselves. In May, FBI Director James Comey said police are so worried about winding up on widespread videos and accused of wrongdoing. He called it the 'viral video effect' and said he believed it was behind the recent spike in crimes. Comey got a lot of backlash for the speculation.
