FBI Issues Urgent Warning To Grocery Shoppers

An unidentified man was arrested after he told the FBI that he went into several Michigan grocery stores and sprayed produce and prepared foods with a mixture of mice poison, hand sanitizer, and water.

Cameras in the store captured the man in a Whole Foods grocery store in Ann Arbor, MI on April 24, 2016, spraying liquid on some produce and other items. The man was located and arrested after police released his picture to the public, according to the New York Times.

News reports, however, do not identify the man or what charges he was arrested on.

The man said he sprayed the concoction on food at the Whole Foods, a Meijer and Plum market, however, the FBI warns that more than 14 stores in Michigan could be affected. No one was sickened or hurt by the ordeal. The Michigan Health Department doesn’t anticipate that the incident will impact anyone’s health

“Out of an abundance of caution and to protect public health and food safety, I encourage consumers to dispose of any foods purchased from salad bars, olive bars and ready-to-eat hot-and-cold food areas from these stores between mid-March and the end of April,” said Jamie Clover Adams, the director of the state’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

“Although most of these types of foods may have already been eaten or disposed of, some may still be in refrigerators or freezers.”
