Fans Troubled 18 Months After Jim Carrey GF's Suicide, This Selfie Is 'Unrecognizable'

Jim Carrey has been out of the public eye for about 18 months, ever since his girlfriend, Cathriona White, committed suicide. Carrey posted his first selfie on Twitter since the tragic events to wish everyone a happy Easter. Fans remarked that they almost didn't recognize him-- things have certainly taken a toll on the 55-year-old.

Carrey posted a photo of himself holding an adorable little bunny rabbit and a carrot. He wrote, "Happy Easter or Passover or whatever reason you can find to feel warm and fuzzy."

Carrey looks shockingly different from the way people remember him. Most notably, he's sporting a long, scraggly, mostly grey beard. He also appears to have put on some weight and hasn't had a haircut in a while.

A lot of people on Twitter couldn't believe how much the funny man seems to have aged.

"I had to look at this picture for five minutes before my brain understood that this was Jim Carrey," someone tweeted.

"Wow this picture made me realize childhood is over," said one.

The death of his girlfriend of three years was surely a devastating blow to Carrey, star of films 'Bruce Almighty' and 'The Truman Show'. He had actually just broken up with the 30-year-old, when days later she was found dead of a drug overdose in her home. She left a suicide note, referencing the break-up.

Rubbing salt into the wound, White's ex-husband and mother filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey, who they allege 'illegally obtained and provided the drugs that killed' White.

Carrey claims he was 'deeply saddened' by White's death. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”

Hopefully, the grief has ebbed and the legal issues are being resolved, and this selfie is just Carrey’s first step back into the public eye. His fans miss him and look forward to seeing him return.
