Singer Natalie Cole's Son Found Dead At The Age Of 39

The son of a famous singer has passed away at the age of 39. Robert Yancy was the son of the late singer Natalie Cole, who passed away in December 2015 from cognitive heart failure.

His father, Marvin, passed away back in 1985, also due to a heart attack. As the Daily Mail shares, a heart attack also claimed the life of Yancy.

The grandson of the legendary Nat King Cole, Yancy was an accomplished drummer that was involved in the music industry as well. He was found dead inside his San Fernando Valley apartment on Monday by a friend that grew concerned over not hearing from Yancy for several days.

A source confirmed his death, and noted that he had been working on a documentary about his late mother.

“He told me he was very depressed about his mother’s passing, saying she was the best mom in the world and he loved her deeply and he didn’t want her legacy to fade away,” the source said. “He wanted to remind people of how great Nat and his mom were. He felt they were underrepresented in the music world.”

Anita Anderson, one of his mother’s former backup singers, took to social media to express her sadness.

"We have lost another great young soul too soon!!! Robert Adam Yancy, Natalie Cole's only surviving son and accomplished drummer has died!!” she wrote. “Rest in peace as you journey home with mom and dad! And know you're always in our hearts son!! Love you and miss you already!!!"

After his mother passed away, Yancy was taken aback that her tribute at the following year’s Grammy awards was nondescript. The only mention of Natalie Cole came via a photo that was displayed during an "In Memoriam" segment, and he felt that his accomplished mother deserved much more.

“She deserves more than that because she has done so much,” he said after the incident. “To have my mother treated with the disdain and disrespect that she was treated with last night, it's just unacceptable. It was not right.”

Despite that, it’s noted that Yancy was a positive and happy church-going man.

“Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! How I thank God for for waking me up this morning to see another thanksgiving! As we are soon coming to the close of another year, let us be grateful for the things he has done this year!!! but let us also not forget the less fortunate,” he shared on social media back in 2013. “Keep them close to your heart! To all my friends and family and everyone around the world, I love all of you very much! This is the day that The Lord had truly made! Let us Rejoice and be Exceedingly Glad in it!!”

Funeral arrangements are still being worked out, but it’s assumed that Yancy will be laid to rest alongside his mother, grandparents, and other family members at the family plot located in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Yancy.
