Famous Fashion House Dolce & Gabbana Responds To Backlash For Dressing The First Lady

Famous Italian fashion personalities, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, have been praised after they delivered a clever retort to critics of their brand, Dolce & Gabbana. The Italian fashion icons attracted negative publicity after the First Lady, Melania Trump, was pictured wearing their brand. Taking the critics' catchphrase, the iconic pair has created a t-shirt sporting the slogan #BOYCOTT above a large heart and the brand name, selling the witty t-shirts to supporters for $245.

The Italian duo has faced several months of criticism from anti-Trump advocates after the pair posted numerous photos of Melania Trump wearing a number of Dolce & Gabbana items during her recent trip to Italy with her husband, President Donald Trump. Despite these attacks, the pair has continued to show their support for Melania’s various outfit choices. Fashion critics kept a close eye on Melania throughout her trip and were repeatedly amazed by her expensive tastes in clothing. One of Melania’s most head-turning outfits was a silk coat from Dolce & Gabbana, decorated with applique flowers and valued at $52,000 retail.

Despite receiving thousands of insults over social media, Mr. Gabbana remained unfazed by the negative publicity, even going as far as colorfully telling one user to ‘f**k off’ and another to ‘go to hell’, defending Melania Trump in the process. Instagram users were particularly enraged at the Dolce & Gabbana fashion house, sending messages like “disgusting you dressed her, shame on you!!!,” and “Yuck. I think I just bought my last Dolce piece.”

The two men were honored by Melania’s decision to don their brand in her official portrait, which featured her in a $2,900 Turlington Satin-Trim Two-Button Jacket from their latest line that perfectly complimented her 25-carat ring gifted to her on her 10th wedding anniversary by President Trump. Mr. Gabbana even went as far as posting a picture of the First Lady, captioned ‘Melania Trump #DGwoman thank you #madeinitaly’ with numerous heart emojis. This post, however, earned Mr. Gabbana a slew of negative comments, with many social media users emphasizing their distaste for the implicit show of support towards Trump’s presidency.

When one Instagram user directly called for a boycott of the infamous fashion house, Mr. Dolce and Mr. Gabbana took little time in using this insult to their own advantage and began to mock their ‘haters’ with a designer, chic t-shirt with the brand name, a huge red heart and the hashtag #BOYCOTT. Fans of the 32-year-old fashion house can purchase a #boycott Dolce & Gabbana shirt to show their support for the two Italian men and join the hundreds of other fans who have shown their support.

This is not the first controversial statement the iconic Italian fashion house has made, causing a stir back in 2015 when they voiced their opposition to gay marriage and gay adoption. The legendary pair revealed in an interview that they believed “the only family is the traditional one, no chemical offspring and rented uterus. Life has a natural flow; there are things that cannot be changed.”
