Facebook Under Fire For These Photos

Facebook has finally taken action on a controversial issue after an online petition attracted 11,000 signatures. According to BuzzFeed, the petition called for the removal of photos of a woman with her ex-boyfriend, who also happened to brutally murder her.

Hollie Gazzard was viciously stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, Asher Maslin, after she decided to end the relationship. He would show up at the salon she was employed at with a carving knife to administer the attack. Employees and staff at the salon unsuccessfully attempted to protect her, and he would stab her 14 times.

As per Facebook policy, her account was memorialized and maintained as the profile was at the time of her passing. The profile contained several photos of Hollie and her attacker, and her father sparked efforts for the social media giant to remove them.

“We would like to continue to remember the good times we had with her but are left traumatized when you see her with him,” said Nick Gazzard.

Facebook finally relented and removed the photos, but reports indicate that was due to complaints of copyright infringement. Maslin has been sentenced to life in prison for the attack. His own mother says she requested police arrest him the day before the attack “before it got out of hand,” but her request fell on deaf ears.
