Look At Facebook Reveals Elementary School Teacher's Long History Of Crime And Drug Abuse

When parents send their children off to school for the day, they do so under the assumption that their child will wind up under the care of someone that does not have a substance abuse problem. Parents of students that attend the Holmes Park Elementary school in Sapulpa, Oklahoma have recently discovered that they shouldn’t assume that.

As Fox 23 shares, that’s because a teacher at the school has been busted for a plethora of crimes, and it all stems from her rampant drug abuse.

Megan Sloan has been arrested on a number of charges, including embezzlement, possession of or purchasing controlled drugs within 1000 feet of a public institution, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her various crimes came to light not because school administrators suspected that there may have been some sort of a problem with her, but rather because she had left her Facebook account open on a computer and walked away from it.

On her account, she was openly having a conversation about using and selling heroin. Another teacher came across her post and alerted the higher-ups, and that led them to take a look.

That led to an investigation, and lo and behold, Sloan had herself a drug problem. Not only that, but she admitted to stealing and pawning school property to feed her habit.

Exactly how a teacher with a serious drug problem failed to capture the attention of administrators remains unclear.

Nonetheless, Sapulpa Public Schools Superintendent Rob Armstrong has assured parents in the district that all is well.

“Let me take a moment to express my heartfelt sadness for the events that have transpired this week. We are working tirelessly to investigate several serious allegations. While talking with many individuals, and small groups of people during the last 72 hours we wanted to take the time to send a general message to our entire community,” he wrote. “Oklahoma Statutes prohibit a public body from releasing and/or discussing internal personnel investigations, including demotion, discipline, or resignations.”

It’s a good thing that Armstrong and his crack staff are now working so tirelessly. Perhaps they can take a break and learn about the signs and symptoms of drug abuse.

“We take the safety of our children very serious. We are all parents, grandparents, and neighbors. As a matter of standard practice, we will review our current policies and procedures to ensure best available practices are being followed,” the statement continued.

A review doesn’t sound like enough in this case. There is no way that a teacher with a substance abuse problem did not give off some kind of red flags, especially when a simple look in her purse by the cops revealed she was packing both meth and heroin.

“Please contact your school principal, or district administrators if you ever have information that we need to know about. Together we will continue to make this a school district to be proud of,” the statement concluded.

Let’s hope the district is able to do just that, as this stunning incident should serve as a gigantic wake-up call.

Update: Sloan pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance in the presence of a minor and embezzlement. A judge has sentenced her to ten years in prison for the possession charge and five years for the embezzlement charge, which will be served concurrently.
