Explorer Makes Life-Changing Discovery After Sneaking Into A Seemingly Abandoned Home

An increasingly popular trend on social media platforms is the idea of mixing urban exploration with photography, artfully memorializing decrepit houses and forgotten towns. One of the most popular personalities in this niche is ‘The Tourist,' an urban explorer and photographer operating from Ontario, Canada. ‘The Tourist,' whose real name is Leslie, is acclaimed for the amazing photos she regularly uploads onto social media.

Freaktography - a photography blog focusing on urban exploration - has praised Leslie’s work by commenting: “My Instagram feed is always full of great photos from all of the talented explorers whom I follow and I was always pleasantly surprised with how The Tourist made something as simple as a photo of an empty chair in a barn seem interesting with a curious caption and perfectly lit with natural light through a window.”

As a regular explorer, Leslie is always discovering new locations to investigate. On her birthday, the intrepid adventurer wandered into a dilapidated old home that appeared empty. However, Leslie had no idea that sneaking into this particular building would change her entire life.

Unbeknownst to the ‘The Tourist,' this house was occupied by an elderly man named Lawrence. While both parties were shocked by each other’s presence, Leslie was amazed by Lawrence’s polite and welcoming manner towards a person trespassing on his property. After a brief exchange, Leslie realized that there was something truly special about Lawrence, who allowed the explorer to take a photo of him and his home.

When she uploaded the photo on Instagram, Leslie included a heart-warming description of her initial meeting with Lawrence, writing: “This is Lawrence. He lives in a house I had believed to be abandoned. The driveway is overgrown, the roof is caving in and the interior would lead anyone to believe this land had been deserted. I found him in the living room. He has a hard time getting around so he spends most of his time in there. Alone. He is missing his right eye and has cataracts infecting the left. Even after noticing a stranger essentially helping themselves to his life he was nothing but sweet and kind to me…I’m posting this picture in hopes that it will inspire at least one person to reach out to someone they may have lost contact with or perhaps just forgot about. These old souls are still full of life and I feel blessed to have met this one.”

When visitors look through Leslie’s Instagram page, they will see the development of Leslie’s incredible friendship with Lawrence, with posts showing: Leslie helping him clean the junk out of his home, dinner dates, a visit to a church BBQ and birthday celebrations.

Sadly, Leslie recently found out that her friend’s health had begun to decline, mournfully writing: “He’s informed me of his funeral arrangements and has asked me to be there. I told him I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Despite the tragic news, Leslie and Lawrence still look upon their initial meeting as “the best day[s] of their lives.”
