Ellen DeGeneres Not Allowed Into The White House - Here's Why

A celebrity won a medal and was invited to the White House to receive it. Unfortunately, she was stopped at the door and not allowed to go inside. She tweets about it.

Ellen DeGeneres was one of 21 people granted the Presidential Medal of Freedom award by President Barack Obama. It is the highest award that a civilian can receive, so it's quite an honor. Unfortunately, the talk show host forgot her identification when she went to the White House for the ceremony with her fellow honorees.

"They haven’t let me in to the White House yet because I forgot my ID,” the DeGeneres tweeted with a picture of her sitting outside on a bench. “#NotJoking.”

A while later, she tweeted an update. “I’m in,” it read.

It's a good thing she made it in, too-- President Obama had some very nice things to say about her.

“It’s easy to forget now, when we’ve come so far, where now marriage is equal under the law, just how much courage was required for Ellen to come out on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago,” said the president. He commented that the comedian and actor inspire people 'to be better, one joke, one dance at a time.'

Of course, the first thing the funny woman had to do after the ceremony was joke about it. “I hope [the Medal of Freedom] serves as an ID. I have no idea how I’m getting home.”
