Drunk Driver Kills Four In Accident And Walks Away With Light Sentence

The parents of four women who were killed in a limousine accident were left horrified after neither of the two drivers involved received jail time. 57-year-old Steven Romeo and 59-year-old Carlos Pino became prime suspects for the murder of the four women after it was discovered that one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol, and the other had made an illegal U-turn, causing the accident.

Brittany Schulman, Lauren Baruch, Stephanie Belli and Amy Gribina were celebrating a bachelorette party when they were struck by Mr. Romeo’s car. While Mr. Romeo tested positive for alcohol in his system, he was under the legal limit. However, it is believed that the limousine driver, Mr. Pino, made an illegal U-turn, causing Mr. Romeo to hit the vehicle, kill the four women inside and seriously injure the remaining four left, including the bride to be.

This tragic series of events left four families utterly heartbroken as they left the court room knowing that no justice was served to the either driver. Mr. Pino, although originally being charged with negligent homicide, had all charges against him dropped after his attorney, Leonard Lato, argued that Mr. Pino wasn’t viable as all he did was fail to judge the proximity of the ongoing vehicle. Despite the prosecutor’s acknowledgment that Mr. Pino “put them in harm’s way by carelessly and negligently making that ill-advised turn into oncoming traffic,” the families of those who were killed did not see any retribution.

Mr. Romeo, a man who was perhaps in the wrong place at the wrong time, struck a deal with the prosecutor, who determined that a sober driver could not have avoided the horrific accident and thus, he could not be held accountable. His license was suspended for 90 days and he will pay a $500 fine. The parents of the deceased shouted at Romeo’s attorney whilst he attempted to recite a statement of remorse on Mr. Romeo’s behalf and were seen leaving the court room in tears after the verdict was given.
