Drunk Dad Neglects Starving Children - Police Act Quickly On Arrival

When a 24-year-old New Mexico man was arrested for drunk driving, local police were left to care for his three children that were in the car. According to Little Things, the children –ages 5, 2 and 2-months— couldn’t even remember the last time they had eaten. The baby was in a car seat, but she wasn’t buckled in.

The children were terrified, cold and hungry. Bernalillo County Deputies Roger Garcia and Sam Rodriquez were first to arrive at the scene and knew they had to do something to make the children feel safe and secure. Though he didn’t have children of his own, Garcia’s fatherly instincts kicked in and he mixed up some baby formula in a cold water bottle and warmed it with the car’s heater by the light of a flashlight. He even changed the infant’s dirty diaper.

Once his wife saw the photos, she knew it was time for them to have a baby of their own.

"Honey, it's time to start a family,” she told him.

Thanks to these officers these kids had a little comfort on a really scary night for them.
