Draw A Black Dot On Your Hand And Police Will Come To Your House - Here's Why

Domestic violence is a serious issue, and a lot of times the victims will want help. It's just not that easy to get help when someone is threatening your life or safety. Sometimes, a victim’s only chance is a secret message.

It's very risky for a victim of abuse to call for help, so a new campaign has come up with a sign: a simple black dot on the palm. The campaign was started when a woman in the U.K. used it to silently ask for help from a social worker.

A woman in England who was being beaten by her husband drew a black dot on the palm of her hand to get attention. She flashed it at a social worker, who showed up on her doorstep the next day with police to help her get out of her situation.

The woman is now trying to spread the word that a black dot means something is wrong, and that you should contact police. It's called the 'Black Dot Campaign.'

Posters for the campaign read 'End the silence of domestic violence,' and show a hand with a black dot in the middle of the palm. Pass the information along on social media; for someone out there, it might be a matter of life and death.
