Don't Eat Tilapia - Here's Why

Talapia has become one of the most commonly seen fish in American grocery stores over the last few years, and it’s rapidly becoming a standard part of many American diets. This is not good news.

The big issue with tilapia is that it is practically all farmed. The issue with farmed fish is that it is much less healthy to eat than the wild counterpart.

These fish are fed GMO corn and soy pellets, which have unnatural effects on the fish that carries over into the meat and ultimately into you.

Farmed tilapia (farmed fish in general really) can lead to a number of health problems. Research shows farmed fish may have the following health risks:

Increased Risk Of Cancer

Farmed tilapia typically have about ten times as many carcinogenic pollutants as wild fish. It turns out that chicken feces is a primary ingredient in some fish feeds, and duck and pig waste as well. Remember, you are quite literally what you eat!

Higher Risk Of Inflammation

Consumption of farmed tilapia can lead to several inflammation related illnesses, such as asthma, heart disease, arthritis, and others. While some people eat tilapia to get a source of omega-3s in their diets, you may want to hold off as farmed tilapia actually has more harmful contaminants than hamburger meat.

More Exposure To Antibiotics And Pesticides

Of course, farmed fish is also treated with more pesticides and antibiotics than natural fish. Because of the poor diets and harsh living conditions of farmed fish, many of them are at risk of developing serious illnesses. Therefore, use lots of antibiotics to fatten them up so that they can make it to your dinner plate. These antibiotics then end up inside of you.
