Doctor Saves Passenger in Mid-Air with Hair Tie and Whiskey

Dr. Patricia Quinlan was recently traveling from Philadelphia to San Francisco with her family when she noticed a man fall out of a seat in front of her.

She immediately realized that, at 35,000 feet, the man was enduring dangerously low blood pressure--this took place on Thanksgiving. Yet, the doctor was on an airplane, without the right medical supplies. So, she looked around for help from passengers.

She used her hair tie for a tourniquet, whiskey from the bar as a disinfectant and a piece of masking tape to fix a leaking IV bag as she fought to save the man.

This was all done using the light of other passengers' mobile phones and in front of a crowded plane. Quinlan told The Morning Call, "He was out for a good 20 minutes. It took us about 90 minutes to get him upright. We'd lift him a little and he'd pass out again."

They believe the man, who was heading to China, was suffering from extreme dehydration mixed with the effect of blood pressure medication he took earlier that day. After her amazing assistance and quick thinking, the pilot carried her bags off the plane. Moreover, the entire crew gave her the nickname Dr. Angel.
