Doctor Hit With Lawsuit After Girlfriend Accused Him Of Spiking Her Drinks With Contraceptives

Hyosun Kim, a woman from Manhattan, New York, has filed a $5 million lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, a 37-year-old doctor named John Ikechi Nwankwo, after accusing him of spiking her drinks with contraceptive drugs. Unsurprisingly, Mr. Nwankwo’s deception didn’t last for long and his now ex-girlfriend intends to make him pay for his actions.

According to the lawsuit, when Ms. Kim confronted Mr. Nwankwo about his behavior, the Manhattan doctor “shrugged and replied that ‘[he] did not want’ to have a child with her.” It remains unclear how often Ms. Nwankwo spiked his girlfriend’s drink, but the lawsuit infers that it may have been quite regular, describing how “during the course of their romantic relationship, (the couple) routinely engaged in sexual intercourse.”

Ms. Kim finally discovered her boyfriend’s abuse of her trust when – the morning after engaging in unprotected sex – she found an empty box of oral contraceptives in the bottom of the trash. The lawsuit specifically refers to the contraceptives by their common name: ‘The Plan B pill’.

The Plan B pill is easy to obtain and can be bought over the counter at many grocery shops and pharmacies across the country. "The Plan B pill is an oral medication that is taken after unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy, which is effective only when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse,” described Ms. Kim’s lawsuit.

Unsurprisingly, Ms. Kim was worried when she found the empty box of pills and initially suspected her boyfriend was cheating on her. "As she had no ideas where these pills had come from," Ms. Kim confronted Mr. Nwankwo and demanded answers.

After much prodding, the doctor finally admitted that he had been mixing the oral pills in with her drinks, with the lawsuit reading: "he revealed to (Kim’s) complete shock that he had deceptively diluted and mixed the Plan B contraceptive pill in (her) beverage because he ‘did not want to get her pregnant.’”

Ms. Kim’s lawsuit also clarifies that her partner was well aware that she would never want to unknowingly take the Plan B pill. “[He] was aware she would never have voluntarily agreed to take the Plan B pill and told her that this was the only way he could get her to ingest some,” reads the suit.

In the lawsuit, Ms. Kim also alleges that Mr. Nwankwo acted like his actions weren’t a horrendous breach of trust, with the doctor reportedly justifying his actions by saying “this was the only way that he could get her to ingest the drug." As a doctor, Mr. Nwankwo’s irresponsible behavior is even more worrying – who knows how many other patients he has given drugs to without their knowledge.

After the altercation with Mr. Nwankwo, Ms. Kim immediately broke up with her boyfriend. However, the violation of her body has left her distressed and angry, with the lawsuit describing how the discovery left her “so jarred and upset by the fact that her boyfriend had drugged her that she suffered extreme emotional and mental distress, for which she sought medical treatment.”
