Do You Use Keurig? You'll Want To Get Rid Of It After Reading This

Who doesn’t love the idea of the Keurig. A steaming hot cup of coffee for one at your fingertips within a minute or so. It’s a dream come true for coffee lovers and extremely easy to use.

However, one man says he is tossing out his machine and never looking back.

He claims he figured out how gross his Keurig was when he was moving and wanted to make sure it was dry before he packed it away. After opening up the machine he made a startling find, mold

According to Keurig’s own website, the rubber tubing and its internal tank cannot be drained. This leaves the potential for mold to build up or a green or black slime known as biofilm.

“No, your coffee bean’s antibacterial action is not enough to kill these microbes that are floating through the system,” said Donna Duberg, M.A., M.S., an assistant professor of clinical laboratory science at Saint Louis University.

She states “There is research which shows that it is only about 50 percent effective in killing bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans, and molds.”

Ewwwwwww!

You could try and clean your Keurig by running a few cycles of diluted vinegar through the machine, however some people weren’t pleased with those results.

“I could still smell a moldy aroma after doing quite a few vinegar cycles,” a commenter said online. “There were also black, floaty things in my cup even when I just brewed hot water.”

CBS 2 Pittsburg's own investigation into Keurig and similar coffee machines also found millions of bacterial colonies inside the machines.

They state there are simple actions to prevent bacterial build-up in addition to rinsing with vinegar: clean the machine daily, leave the lid open to air out, use filtered instead of tap water, and change the water after each use.
