Display at Walmart Slammed as Inappropriate

A Walmart in Las Vegas found itself at the center of a controversy when someone snapped a picture of a clothing display. Some people saw absolutely nothing unusual about the display, but others immediately thought it was a deliberate act of racism. What do you think?

KTNV investigated the Walmart display after a customer snapped a photo and posted it online.

The photo features clothing hanging on hangers from the rafters. No mannequins were used, or human-shaped figures; there were just shirts, mostly black and red, hanging from hangers.

Three shirts in a row were hooked to each other; there were four similar displays in a row.

A reporter went out to the Walmart parking lot to show the picture and ask people what they thought. What one customer saw was a sign of racism. "Four black items hanging from the ceiling as if they were four black people," said one man who saw the display.

"Halloween's gone, but you still have four black figures hanging from the ceiling," said the man.

Another woman said it looked like the 'KKK' had been there and left bodies hanging.

Some shoppers squinted at the image the reporter showed them and thought it looked like 'people hanging from the ceiling' and some thought they looked like 'mannequins of people hanging from the top of the roof'.

The photos of the display have been circulated on social media, and many are complaining that the display is racially insensitive and offensive. The woman who first snapped and posted the photos things Walmart owes the community an apology, and someone should be held accountable.

On the flip side, other people didn't see anything wrong at all when they looked at the pictures. They just saw shirts on display.

Walmart wasn't taking any chances; within hours of the photo going up and stirring the controversy, the display was taken down.

It makes you wonder; if you see something offensive in an inkblot, does that mean the person who made the ink blot is racist and should be fired?
